Herky & Glove is an intimate portrait about two best friends doing life sentences together. After four decades down at the Iowa State Penitentiary, both men are transferred to a medium security prison where life without parole is easier -but takes just as long. Questions of punishment, forgiveness, retribution and redemption surface, seemingly with no tangible solution, because in Iowa a life sentence means life.

Misfortunate plunges headlong into the Condemned Men’s Unit at the Ely State Prison in Northern Nevada, where the reward for surviving one day is the punishment of the next. After a twelve-year hiatus in executions, life on death row may finally be coming to an end for its eighty-one prisoners. As the paint dries on a new execution chamber and a fresh supply of lethal drugs is secured, one prisoner volunteers to be the first to die – and the rest await their fate.
